Soran, situated in the northeast of the Kurdistan Region, shares its borders with the Islamic Republic of Iran to the east, Turkey to the north, Raperin to the southeast, Amedi to the northeast, Akre to the east, and Erbil to the south.
Soran boasts 30% of the tourist attractions in the Kurdistan Region. It offers unique attractions not found elsewhere, such as Kani Baste Lake, the region's highest lake, and Halgurd Forest, one of its tallest mountains. The Haji Omeran International Gateway connects the Kurdistan Region with Iran, while the Syedkan Berms and Zet International Gateway link the region with Turkey. Tourists are also drawn to renowned sites like Korak Mountain, Shingalbana, Jundian Resort, Bekhal, and Ali Beg Lake. Additionally, Soran is home to historical caves like Shanadar, Bastun, and Diyan, where Neanderthal remains have been discovered. The administration encompasses numerous other historical landmarks.
